SPRING UPDATE

Hello-

….SPRING IS IN THE AIR……Welcome to the Spring session of Regular Swim Team. We start March 16! This session usually involves the influx of energy and swimmers from the Jr. Team as well as the return of some of our swimmers who have taken the Winter off. Welcome and/or welcome back! I’ll be sending out weekly updates throughout the season, but wanted to give everyone some framework for the upcoming months. SPRING REGISTRATION FORMS — please take a minute to register online. Please note TPC members will check out with a $0 charge — we will simply charge your TPC acct.!

FOR SWIMMERS JOINING FROM JR. TEAM

The primary differences between the 2 programs are the pool, the practice times/frequency, and the meets:

Pool-the pool is 5 yards longer and 6 degrees cooler. Do not call it the ‘cold pool’! It is 80 degrees, standard temperature for a competition pool anywhere in the world!
Practice-practice is offered 5 days a week…come as much as you like..I recommend 3 times/week minimum. I don’t take attendance, but it is pretty obvious to see the correlation between success and time in the pool!
Meets-the meets range from 2 hour home meets to the most competitive meets in the Western US. I suggest everyone plan on hitting at least 1 meet this season. You wouldn’t join a soccer team and not play in the games, would you?
FOR SWIMMERS RETURNING FROM WINTER BREAK

Welcome back! It may take a bit of time to work off the rust —stay patient and trust that you will be back into form soon. Ask questions…

MEETS—meets are an important part of what competitive swimming is about. We are not a fitness swim team—Meets require volunteers, and while we do not mandate volunteerism, it is nice to be a part of your child’s sport! Lend a hand!—nothing we do requires an advanced degree, just enthusiasm and a willingness to help out. Our team could not function without some parents stepping up.

DIVE CLINIC – This season, Coach Marco and I will be offering a Dive/Turn focused clinic every Wednesday from 3-3:30 (right before Group 1). Cost is $180mem/$234 for 11 sessions starting 3/18 and going through 6/3 (no Spring Break Clinic). Email me if you are interested!

SUMMERTIME (starts June 15)—This summer, in an effort to keep the team together as much as possible, with family vacations, etc.—we will be offering week-by-week registration (with a substantial price break for those who are ‘all-in’)—practices are offered in the morning as well as in the afternoon! The Summer is highlighted by the RESL CHAMPIONSHIPS and the SUMMER TEAM BANQUET.

RESL CHAMPIONSHIPS—This is our end of summer championships. Much of our team participates from Jr. Teamers to Senior level swimmers (there are no qualification times), and it is one of the meets we compete in where we keep track of the score and try to win! It is a great intro to high-level swimming, and is often a spring-board to long-term competitive swimming. If you see your kids swimming long-term, this is an important developmental meet—and the end of the summer for many of our swimmers!

CONTACT—Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns over the season —mike@northbayaquatics.org don’t ‘reply to’ this email. I do enjoy feedback, and want to know any ideas to make the team and your experience better.

See you at the pool!, Coach Mike

HERE ARE THE 3 BASIC TRACKS:

BEGINNER—4/4 TPC TIME TRIAL—5/2 TPC HOME MEET—6/1 Rafael Racquet Club Meet—any other meets offered at TPC or the Rafael Racquet Club

these are all unsanctioned meets that are VERY user friendly and either at TPC or the Rafael Racquet Club. I handle all sign-ups by using ‘sign-up genius’—stay tuned to my weekly emails!

INTERMEDIATE – all beginner meets + short course sanctioned meets

the additional meets are ‘sanctioned’ meets and require a little more commitment, Pacific Swimming Registration, and tend to be a little more of a drive. Sign-ups are usually online via ‘swim-connection’ or ‘Fast Swims’. They are all very friendly to novice swimmers!—email me with any questions.

ADVANCED – all beginner and intermediate meets + qualification meets + Long Course meets

these meets have time requirements or are appropriate for more advanced swimmers (for example Long Course Meets (50m))

TUNATHON – a fun/fundraiser/team-building event at TPC…support your local TUNA!

DIVE CLINIC – This season, Coach Marco and I will be offering a Dive/Turn focused clinic every Wednesday from 3-3:30 (right before Group 1). Cost is $180mem/$234non-mem for 11 sessions starting 3/18 and going through 6/3 (no Spring Break Clinic). Email me if you are interested!
