Congratulations Tuna Alumni Augusta Lewis, NCAA Champion 400 IM
Augusta Lewis, representing CMS last week finished her final collegiate swim season by winning the 400IM at the DIII National Championships. She had previously finished 2,3,4,5 in these prestigious meets. And today she can add 1st to that list of accomplishments. Those who know her are very pleased but not surprised. She has earned her awards the usual way…hard work, focus, relentless in her pursuits while always knowing there are no guarantees. A little side note – in 2018 when she was in her Senior year at Marin Academy trying to make the CA State Championship meet in the 200IM (had to go a 2:07) she was looking at her splits and saying that “I’ll have to go a 30 in the freestyle. No one goes a 30 at the end” I believe it was her Dad who said something to the effect of “well you’ll just need to do that.” And of course she did. Last week her splits were fly 58.5; back 1:06.3; breast 1:11.4 and free 59.2 (28.9 last 50!)…4:15.7 total time. Her big breakout wasn’t really until the summer of 2018 when she scored at Futures. Hard work always pays off. You never know when it will happen. When you consider how many swimmers compete it is remarkable that there simply aren’t that many National Champions. Congrats Augusta – Grit personified.!!! #TTP
