Frequently Asked Questions
How do I order a new swim suit for my child?
Call NorCal (1-800-752-SWIM) to order a new suit - be sure to ask for the team price and order the correct size (because swimsuits with team logos cannot be returned). Check the team clothing page for ordering information.

How do I sign up my child for an away swim meet?
Ken will let you know - via his team email updates - when there's a new meet sheet available (look for them on the table in TPC front hall). If you're not sure if the meet is appropriate for your child, check with Ken via email or leave a note in his hanging file (front hall).

The meet sheet has instructions on how to register your swimmer. The meet entry page provides assistance on completing the entry form. Use your child's best times when completing the entry form. Be sure to mail your entry early as meets often fill up before the due date. At the same time you mail your entry, send email to Ken so that he knows your swimmers will be at the meet.

When should we get to a meet?
Plan to arrive early. The meet sheet will tell you when warm ups start. You do not need to be there at the begining of warm ups, but it is often good to arrive sometime during that time period even if your child is too young to do warm ups on a regular basis.

What should we do when we get to a meet?
Your child needs to sign in and initial their name on the entry list. If swimmers are not signed in at least 30 minutes before their event, they will not be able to swim the event. After your swimmers has signed in, find the rest of the team. It is important for your swimmer to sit with the rest of the team. Parents are welcome also!

What should parents do at a meet?
Make sure your child is ready for a day of swimming. Be sure that they have warm clothes if needed and sun screen on. It is a good idea for swimmers to write their event numbers on their hand to reduce confusion. Then plan to help out by timing. Usually NBA will be assigned a timing lane. Coordinate with other NBA parents to work out the timing shifts. With everyone helping time, your shift may only be an hour.

What if I don't know how to time?
The other timers in the lane will show you what to do. Timing is easy and fun with a front row seat to watch the action. There are 3 timers for each lane. One timer watches the strobe light flash and starts a stop watch. All 3 timers push the timing buttons as the swimmer touches the wall. The recording timer writes down the watch time. The rest of the time you can talk to your timing partners and enjoy snacks and lunch delivered to you.

How do swimmers know what heat and lane they are supposed to swim in?
Less then 30 minutes before the event, the heat and lane assignments will be posted after the event has been seeded. At many pools there is a boys side and a girls side. Usually the 8 & under girls will swim on the boys side to make the meet run faster. The heat and lane assignments are usually posted at both ends of the pool.

When do swimmers get ribbons or awards?
Ribbons and awards for away meets should be picked up by the end of the meet at the awards desk. Awards are given in each class (C, B, and A) for the top 8 times. Often a special award is given when swimmers achieve their first A time in an event. Ribbons for dual meets will be available in the folders the week following the meet.

In the Pacific Swim Guide and on the pacswim.org website there are numerous meets offered. Can we go to any meet that we want?
The NBA coaches post the team meets for each season. Those meets are the ones to attend. However, if there is an open weekend and no "team meet" scheduled, you can enter another meet. Please advise the coaches that you will be attending. Remember, however, it may be that your swimmer needs a little down time in between the scheduled meets.

Will a coach be available to travel to a non team meet to be with my swimmer ?
Coaches are people too and have other responsibilities on off weekends. Usually if you choose to go to a meet that is not scheduled you are on your own.

Should I volunteer to work at any non-team meet my swimmer goes to?
It is always appreciated by the meet director to have volunteers. It reflects positively on our team. Help out whenever and wherever you can. And please, don't forget to get your Stroke and Turn card signed - that way, Zone 3 (our "home" in Pacific Swimming") gets credit.

We just joined the NBA after many years in the MSL(Marin Swim League). My swimmer has alot of friends in that league and would like to swim an occasional meet with them. What is the policy on this? I would not want to jeopordize our status with the NBA.
Once a swimmer has joined the NBA and US Swimming it is not appropriate for them to swim for another team. A lot of issues come into play, a few being insurance coverage and loyalty to a new team. Go cheer on your old teammates but stay out of the pool! You could actually be fined and/or suspended from US Swimming if it were to become an issue.

My child is new to the team and we are not members. Are there any guidelines that we should follow while at the TPC?
Swim team members who are not TPC members may not use the facilities except during swim team practices and meets.
