High School Swimmers Do North Bay Aquatics Proud: Record-Breaking Performances at MCAL's

Novato, CA -- May 12, 2007
Over thirty North Bay Aquatics (NBA) swimmers gave shining performances for their high schools at three different high school conference championship meets which took place on Saturday, May 13. Many of North Bay's "Angry Tuna" swimmers, swimming for their high school teams, successfully qualified for the final championship meets, NCS and CCS, which will take place this coming Saturday, May 19. NCS will be held in Concord and CCS will be at Stanford. North Bay's Chris Packer, a sophomore at The Branson School, won both the 50 and the 100 freestyle events at Saturday's MCAL meet. North Bay's Deborah Roth, a freshman at Redwood High School, won both the 500 freestyle setting a new Redwood High record and set a new MCAL record in the 100 backstroke. Three of the four swimmers on Redwood's powerhouse girls' record-breaking 200 medley relay team are North Bay swimmers: Laura Slater, Elizabeth Kamai and Deborah Roth. NBA's Anthony Perez, swimming for Marin Catholic, won the 200 IM, the 100 butterfly and was a member of the record-breaking 400 freestyle relay team.

"The standout performances at the MCAL, BCL and WCAL swim meets from high school swimmers who hail from the North Bay Aquatics swim team is raising the bar on USA youth swimming in Marin" said a delighted North Bay Aquatics coach Ken DeMont. "Our NCS and CCS qualifiers are now focused on powering into the Championship meets this coming Saturday."

Winning performances were also achieved by North Bay swimmers at the BCL meet, where Marin Academy sophomore Stephanie Christofferson won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly while junior Jon Denton-Schneider won the 100 breaststroke.
