FAR WESTERNS RECAP What a tremendous weekend for our team. I am
beginning to think that some of our training concepts are working out
nicely!! The meet is hugely competitive in most age groups... there were
Pacific Swimming records and swims that will be the top swims recorded
in the nation for that event . To make finals you had to be swimming
really fast. Our team ended up with 12 final swims from 8 different
swimmers. Another swimmer, Madison Livingston was right there in a few
events, just missing out by being an alternate. 3 of our swimmers, Chris
Packer (2 finals), Laura Slater (2 finals), and Jo Jo Winkler ( 1 final)
made their first final ever at the meet....a great accomplishment. Other
finalists were Dillon Moscone, Stephanie Christofferson, Deborah Roth,
and Elizabeth Kamai.
CHRIS PACKER-- I can't not write about the incredible weekend Chris
Packer had. The man won the 50 free in 22.17 and got 2nd in the 100 free
in 49.16...both team records and sectional swims. I think back to how
Chris swam as a young tuna and how many years went by before his talents
came to fruition. Chris made his first JO cut as a 12 year old and just
last year as a 14 year old he swam in his first Far Western in one
event. Now he is right up there as one of the fastest ( if not The
fastest ) swimmer in Marin County AS A FRESHMAN!! The sky is the limit
for him and I hope he takes advantage of his opportunity ( you can rest
assured I will do my part to 'influence' him). This is such a great
example of what inside of many of the swimmers on our team. Many this
year have had huge breakthroughs and let their talents show. Others have
it inside them and I can tell it wants to get out. My question to all my
dedicated swimmers is.... who's next?
Since I am in a writing mood, over the past 6 weeks we have had a great
deal of new team records and board swims recorded. We honor them now -
