Wow am I tired...
It is safe to say that there were team records, boardswims, New PRT's, Q's, AA's, and A's, League Champions, High Point Winners, and a whole new group of swimmers that are now excited to swim on our year round team. It was a great great meet for our team.
Swimming is a sport that requires an incredible amount of parental support in order to make it work. Our team does not function with out a lot of help from our parent group. We won the meet, but also really ran this meet in most areas. I can't thank the collective you enough. You parents support our team and the way we coaches run it with full confidence in our abilites to do a good job. I am truly blessed to be part of such a great group.
There were so many moments that I could talk about, but in the interest of brevity I will leave you with 4 moments that I remember from this weekend that kind of puts it all in perspective.
- Claire Packer swimming a 200 IM , an event that was perhaps a bit too hard for her to do at her age and ability, and doing it with all her might. On both ends of her lane were 8 or so older kids cheering her on as she made her way through each turn.
- Charlie Waters who had a season long goal of breaking 20 seconds in the 25 free, doing it in the last race of the season. He rushed over to me after the race and told me he did a "one nine five four"..you could hear the excitement in his voice.
- Becca Roth who had the best swim meet she has ever had, missed winning the High Point trophy by a couple points, getting beat out by teammate Kate Bettinger. You could see in her face after the announcement was made that strange mixture of pride in doing so well with the dissappointment of coming up just short. Kate came over after and gave her a hug (as did we all) in a great display of sportmanship. I am proud of them both.
- Matt Pelfini shaving our team logo into his hair...what more can you say!!
This is why I love to coach!!
