PS/SR IMPORTANT UPDATE/PLAN

Posted by North Bay Aquatics at Mar 13, 2020 11:27AM PDT

Hi NBA swimmers

As you all have read in the e-mail we sent yesterday we have canceled practices at both COM and Redwood due to the current craziness. While COM is still officially open…at least for today… it will most likely soon follow the lead of other public facilities and close soon.

The fact is even if we had the space available to swim we would participate with the bigger community and do our part to help. Stopping public gatherings is an important community measure at this point to help contain or slow the spread of this virus. It is the right thing to do. NBA will not be the organization that sees what we are doing as more important than what is being asked of others. From everything I hear and read, social distancing is an critical element to the fight and that is what we will do. It is taking an active approach rather than a reactive one.

This does not mean we will be throwing in the towel with our swimming during however long we are out. There are things we can do to still keep us engaged and connected in our quest to be better swimmers/athletes. A partial list would include:

1. A home program through BridgeAthletic that would be based on body weight exercises that we can send to our athletes. This will be available to both PS and SR… we are currently working out exact details and hopefully it will be ready by Monday.

2. The coaches have discussed the need to help our athletes with nutrition and how what you fuel your body with can affect your swimming. We have a couple of nutritionists in our program who can help our swimmers learn to be better eaters if they so choose to do that. Reach out if interested.

3. There are other ways to stay fit aerobically than in the pool. Swimming in the bay or lagoon with or without a wetsuit…hiking, running, and biking…surfing (when this was mentioned last night we saw many smiles as we have lots of surfers) are just a few things that can keep the system strong. Get out and keep moving!

There are of course other things that you can do. Some might have access to a pool still open and individually can use it to stay wet which would be awesome. Coaches are happy to send these swimmers set/workout suggestions.

We can use this time away to better ourselves so when we get back at it in what we hope is the near future we are in some ways better off than we were before

As we have seen over the past few days what is occurring is fluid in nature and we will of course monitor and discuss what the best course of action is our program. Meanwhile have patience and faith and we will get through this in as good of shape as possible

See you at the pool….sometime soon :)

RHS Closed

Posted by North Bay Aquatics at Mar 12, 2020 8:10PM PDT

Hi All

Just got the word that RHS has shut down until 3/30 at the earliest. This means that all our scheduled workouts for both PS and SR groups at Redwood are cancelled.

As of right now (7:45ish on Thursday eve) COM is still opened – this could change. COM workouts will go on as planned until we hear/decide otherwise.

Us coaches are of course talking and looking for solutions during this time while also understanding we need to do what is best for everyones health and the community. We are of course bummed that our swimmers are having meets and training time compromised and are working to do what we can do make the most of this time. We will keep you posted on any developments we have moving forward.

Thanks for the flexibility!

PS/SR Corona Virus Update

Posted by North Bay Aquatics at Mar 12, 2020 2:22PM PDT

Hi All

With the developing news of the coronavirus we wanted to keep you all as up to date on possible with how we plan to move forward with swimming as it is a fluid situation.

We have been informed of both College of Marin and TUHSD policies on how to move forward should someone in the community test positive for the virus. We will defer to their standards.

As of now, there is some concern surrounding the weight room so we have made the decision to err on the side of caution and cancel early morning weights.

While both COM and RHS are still operating, we will plan to continue practices as normal until the facilities potentially close. This is a day to day decision and much like we dealt with the fires and power outages the past two falls, please check your email and spread the word amongst the team so all are informed on any changes. We are closely monitoring the situation as it could change at any moment.

The other important thing: if your swimmer is feeling at all sick they should stay home. The health and safety of our swimmers and coaches is incredibly important to us and our top priority. Use caution when making this decision as it is what is best for each individual as well as the team. Coaches will be doing the same if they feel sick.

Stay healthy all and for now, see you at the pool :)

No S&C Until Further Notice

Posted by North Bay Aquatics at Mar 12, 2020 1:35PM PDT

Hi all

With the interest of our swimmers health and safety in mind we coaches have made the decision to cancel early morning Strength & Conditioning for the time being.

We are talking with our contact at Bridge Athletics to get an individualized body weight based program for our SR swimmers to do on their own at home. More info on this as we get it – swimmers should be able to get their program through the Bridge app on their phone. Expect your swimmers to get more info in the coming days from their coaches on the pool deck.

Thanks for understanding as we learn how to navigate this moving forward. We of course will keep you in the loop as we get any updates moving ahead!

JO Meet Cancelled

Posted by North Bay Aquatics at Mar 10, 2020 12:03PM PDT

Hi All

The JO meet this weekend has been cancelled due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

Copying the information on Pac Swim below from SCSC:

“Junior Olympics meet this weekend has been cancelled. With the Santa Clara County mandate regarding gathering larger than 1000, we cannot hold the meet. Emails will go out with more information on refunds, etc. from Santa Clara Swim Club. We will update you on meets in the new few weeks as we have more information available.”

While we are bummed about this – of course we will continue to look towards the future. Our number one priority and responsibility as coaches is the safety and welfare of our swimmers. We will continue to train as a team and look forward to the upcoming meets this spring and summer – as we have many good ones!

Thanks for your patience and understanding – Go Tuna!
